Abstract

Background: Health care workers are at high risk for tuberculosis (TB). China, a high burden TB country, has no policy on medical surveillance for TB among healthcare workers. In this context, healthcare worker protection from occupational TB exposure represents a critical public health priority requiring systematic screening and prevention strategies. This comprehensive evaluation examines a framework for tuberculosis screening among healthcare workers in clinical settings in Inner Mongolia, China, providing essential insights into occupational TB surveillance, screening methodologies, and prevention program implementation. The research analyzes the effectiveness, feasibility, and cost-effectiveness of systematic TB screening approaches for protecting healthcare workers while identifying opportunities for program optimization and policy development in high-burden healthcare settings.

Key Findings

  • TB screening framework effectiveness and feasibility assessment for healthcare workers
  • Occupational TB surveillance implementation and program evaluation methodology
  • Cost-effectiveness analysis and resource utilization optimization strategies
  • Healthcare worker protection strategies and infection control integration
  • Evidence-based recommendations for policy development and program scaling

Research Impact

This important occupational health study (10 citations) provided essential evidence for TB screening programs among healthcare workers in high-burden settings, informing occupational health policies, infection control guidelines, and healthcare worker protection strategies in China and similar epidemiological contexts.
