What is a Fomite Transmission?

Fomite transmission refers to the spread of infectious diseases through contaminated objects or surfaces, known as fomites. A fomite can be almost anything in the environment that a person touches: door handles, phones, tabletops, clothing, medical equipment, or even shared utensils. When an infected person coughs, sneezes, or touches a surface with unwashed hands, they can leave behind infectious particles like viruses or bacteria.
