Abstract
During outbreaks of deadly emerging pathogens (eg, Ebola, MERS-CoV) and bioterror threats (eg, smallpox), actively monitoring potentially infected individuals aims to limit disease spread. This comprehensive economic analysis quantifies the risk and cost of active monitoring systems for infectious diseases, providing critical evidence for optimizing surveillance strategies during public health emergencies and evaluating the cost-effectiveness of different monitoring approaches for deadly emerging pathogens and bioterror threats.
Key Findings
- Comprehensive economic analysis of active monitoring systems for infectious diseases
- Cost-effectiveness evaluation of surveillance strategies for deadly emerging pathogens
- Risk quantification and optimization of monitoring approaches
- Evidence-based framework for public health emergency surveillance planning
- Decision-making tools for balancing surveillance costs and disease control benefits
Research Impact
This important economic analysis (22 citations) provided critical cost-effectiveness evidence for active monitoring systems during infectious disease outbreaks, informing surveillance strategy optimization and resource allocation decisions for public health emergency preparedness.
