Abstract
Foodborne botulism is a potentially fatal, paralytic illness that can cause large outbreaks. A possible increase in botulism incidence during 2001 in the Republic of Georgia prompted this comprehensive outbreak investigation and epidemiological analysis. This important study examines foodborne botulism patterns, risk factors, and control measures in the Republic of Georgia, providing critical insights into outbreak investigation methodologies, food safety practices, and prevention strategies for this serious foodborne illness. The research analyzes clinical presentations, food vehicles, and environmental factors contributing to botulism transmission, informing evidence-based approaches to outbreak response, food safety education, and public health prevention measures in settings where traditional food preservation practices may pose botulism risks to vulnerable populations.
