Recurrent disease outbreaks caused by a range of emerging and resurging pathogens over the past decade reveal major gaps in public health preparedness, detection, and response capacities, particularly in Africa. This comprehensive analysis examines strategies for advancing detection and response capacities for emerging and re-emerging pathogens across African countries, addressing critical gaps in surveillance systems, laboratory infrastructure, and emergency response capabilities. The research provides essential insights into strengthening health security frameworks, building sustainable diagnostic capacity, and developing integrated approaches to pathogen detection and outbreak response that can enhance pandemic preparedness and protect populations from future infectious disease threats.
